NITLAB actively contributes to ecological and biodiversity monitoring through the integration of advanced wireless and edge technologies in natural settings. Our platforms support non-invasive data collection through sensor networks, wildlife tracking systems, and acoustic monitoring devices. These tools enable continuous environmental observation and support researchers in tracking habitat changes, species behavior, and ecosystem health. By enabling remote access and automation, our infrastructure lowers the barrier for long-term, large-scale biodiversity studies, enhancing conservation strategies and data-driven ecological modeling.
Summary: The LIFE EL-BIOS project aims to develop a comprehensive National Biodiversity Information System in Greece by consolidating existing biodiversity data and creating standardized, accessible indicators. It utilizes advanced tools, including Earth Observation technologies, LiDAR, and in-situ sensors, in selected Natura 2000 sites. The project supports evidence-based environmental policymaking, strengthens institutional capacity, and fosters data-driven biodiversity management. Ultimately, it contributes to aligning national efforts with EU strategies for nature conservation and climate change adaptation.

Summary: The major objective of LIFE eGymer is to demonstrate the effectiveness and viability of an innovative trapping and monitoring system for the gypsy moth, an insect that causes huge environmental problems both in natural habitats and in semi-urban and recreational areas of cities. The proposed system combines state-of-the-art solutions used to control the gypsy moth but also integrates modern technologies for continuous monitoring of the species’ population in different EU countries and climate zones, where traditional applications are either impracticable and/or financially non-viable. Moreover, it aims to reduce the quantities of plastic wasted within the manufacturing process by using recyclable materials as well as to reduce their overall cost.
